The Young King and other Stories. London: The Folio Society, [1953]. First Edition Thus. Pp 156. Quarter brown morocco, over original patterned paper boards; spine with raised bands, compartments with lettering & devices in gilt. A fine bright copy.

This edition of the complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde is Illustrated with wood-engravings in colour by John Gaastra.

Illustrated with wood engravings in colour, a technique which involves carving an image into a block of wood, inking it, and then printing it, which gives the illustrations a unique textured, detailed, and highly stylised appearance.

A wonderful example of early Folio Society craftsmanship. While The Folio Society is now renowned as a premier publisher of illustrated hardback classics, this edition comes from their first decade of operation (founded in 1947), making it a notably early and collectible volume.

An Ideal gift edition.
